ACIVIR CREAM works by inhibiting the growth of herpes viruses. It targets viral DNA with greater affinity than human DNA, incorporating into the viral DNA and causing chain termination and inactivation, which leads to the death of the infected cells.
Apply ACIVIR CREAM as prescribed by your physician. This medication is for external use only. Before applying, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area. Avoid rubbing the cold sore to prevent it from spreading or worsening. Use the cream for up to 5 days, or as directed by your doctor.
ALLERGY Do not use ACIVIR CREAM if you are allergic to Acyclovir, Valacyclovir, or any other ingredients in this medication. PREGNANCY Inform your doctor if you are pregnant before using ACIVIR CREAM. Consult your doctor for advice before application. BREASTFEEDING ACIVIR CREAM is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women, as it may pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before applying this medication.
