How it works:
Ticagrelor is a powerful P2Y12 receptor antagonist. In diseased blood vessels, platelets can form a thrombus (blood clot) by adhering to the arterial surface. Activated platelets produce ADP3, which binds to the P2Y12 receptor and promotes thrombus formation. Ticagrelor reversibly binds to the P2Y12 receptor in place of ADP3, preventing signal transduction and platelet activation, thereby inhibiting blood clot formation.
