How it works:
SPASMELAN TABLET contains Dicyclomine and Mefenamic acid. Dicyclomine is an anti-spasmodic and anti-cholinergic medication. It works by blocking the effects of acetylcholine—a chemical responsible for muscle contraction—at its receptor sites and by exerting a direct spasmolytic effect on smooth muscles. This action helps relieve smooth muscle spasms in the intestines, bile ducts, ureters, and uterus. Mefenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and fever-reducing properties. It works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which is involved in the production of prostaglandins, chemicals that mediate inflammatory responses in the body.
Directions for use:
Take SPASMELAN TABLET as directed by your doctor, preferably after meals. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water; do not crush or chew it. Do not change or stop your daily dose of SPASMELAN TABLET without consulting your doctor, even if you start feeling better. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and duration based on your age, body weight, and medical condition.
Warning & Precaution:
PREGNANCY SPASMELAN TABLET should be used with caution during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy only if clearly necessary. It is not recommended during the third trimester due to potential risks such as fetal heart defects (premature closure of the ductus arteriosus), delayed labor, and increased bleeding risk for the mother. Consult your doctor before using SPASMELAN TABLET. BREASTFEEDING SPASMELAN TABLET is not recommended for breastfeeding women due to the risk of serious adverse reactions in nursing infants. If SPASMELAN TABLET is essential for the mother, breastfeeding should be discontinued during the treatment period. Consult your doctor before taking SPASMELAN TABLET. DRIVING AND USING MACHINES Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, visual disturbances, or blurred vision after taking SPASMELAN TABLET. ALCOHOL Avoid alcohol while taking SPASMELAN TABLET, as it may increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, and perforation. KIDNEY SPASMELAN TABLET is not recommended for patients with preexisting kidney disease, obstructive uropathy, or significantly impaired renal function. Consult your doctor before taking SPASMELAN TABLET. LIVER Use SPASMELAN TABLET with caution if you have impaired liver function. Consult your doctor before taking it. ALLERGY Do not take SPASMELAN TABLET if you are allergic to dicyclomine or mefenamic acid. LUNGS SPASMELAN TABLET is not recommended for patients with preexisting asthma or aspirin-sensitive asthma. Consult your doctor before taking SPASMELAN TABLET. HEART DISEASE Use SPASMELAN TABLET with caution if you have heart conditions such as heart failure or hypertension, or if you have increased heart rate conditions like thyrotoxicosis, congestive heart failure, or are undergoing cardiac surgery. SPASMELAN TABLET is not recommended for perioperative pain management in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Consult your doctor before taking SPASMELAN TABLET.
